AL Chesapeake Awarded $25,000 Grant

Assistance League of the Chesapeake has been awarded a $25,000 grant to support Kids In Need and Project Literacy. The grant comes from the Local Development Council of Maryland. The funds will go to support our work at Van Bokkelen and Meade Heights elementary schools and MacArthur Middle School. It will also help pay for books given to students at Van Bokkelen and Meade Heights.

The Local Development Council commended Assistance League of the Chesapeake for the work we do to enrich lives and strengthen communities and families in our county. The grant will provide about 740 new school uniform packages for at least 500 students at the schools. They will be distributed in September 2019 and January 2020. The January distribution also includes winter hats and gloves.

The Local Development Council was established in Maryland counties in which a video lottery terminal facility (casino) is located. The Local Development Council advises the county executive on the needs and priorities of the communities surrounding the Maryland Live! Casino and the expenditure of video lottery terminal funds. Anne Arundel County receives 4.51% of total revenues generated by video lottery terminals at Maryland Live! Casino. These monies are distributed by the county as local impact grants and must be used primarily in the communities in immediate proximity to the casino.

Assistance League of the Chesapeake has received the grant in prior years and used the funds to support Kids In Need and Project Literacy.
