On October 2, Paula Sparks, Chessie coordinator, will be prepping for our Chessie Reading Club program, which begins the following week. If you’d like to see what we do, please stop by!
The Chessie Reading Club at Meade Heights Elementary is geared toward reading for content and retention — and it’s working! Students in first, second and third grades select a book each week from a special “Chessie” section in the school library. They read their book during the week and return the following week for their “Chessie Check.” Volunteers have a binder with questions for each book, and, if students can answer questions about the book they’ve read, they receive a “check” mark for that week. There are rewards for each five books they successfully complete.
There will be a training session on October 2. We also invite you to join us when the program starts and to shadow a volunteer to see if this is something you’d like to do.
