Our Philanthropic Focus

Operation School Bell® Clothing

Children within Contra Costa County are referred by local school districts to receive new clothing, underwear and shoes, improving their self esteem and school attendance.

Operation School Bell: R.E.A.D.

Volunteers read and provide books monthly to second graders in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

Operation School Bell: Listen

Volunteers listen to second and third grade readers in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, allowing the students to practice and improve their reading skills.

Operation School Bell: Elementary Arts Discovery

This program is designed to encourage creative artistic expression in elementary students.   Volunteers present projects and materials to classes each  month.

Operation School Bell: The Kids on the Block

Educational puppet shows are performed, providing a nonthreatening environment to learn about disabilities, safety issues and social problems.

Community Needs: Community Programs

Seven different programs that meet the range of community needs.   Assault Survivor Kits® , Baby Bags, Food Boxes, On My Way Bags, Receiving Center Backpacks, Senior Year Sponsorships, and Outreach.

Community Needs: Show on the Road

Volunteers visit assisted living facilities, bringing fun and enthusiastic entertainment to brighten up the residents’ day.

Community Needs: TeleCare

Volunteers provide a daily reassurance call to housebound clients, providing a cheery hello and a sympathetic ear.

Scholarships

Assistance League awards a variety of scholarships to graduating high school seniors, community college students, foster youth.  Support is also awarded to teachers for classroom enrichment.

R.E.A.D. For Family Literacy!

Assistance League Diablo Valley celebrates National Family Literacy Day. To encourage reading, members in the R.E.A.D. program read to 1,200 second graders last year and donated books valued at $20,000 to children, classrooms and school libraries. Listen program members also provided 2,625 hours of reading support to second graders.

Assistance League Diablo Valley philanthropic program Show on the Road preformed Dorothy Returns to Oz to residents at Bryon Park Assisted Living in Walnut Creek, Ca.

Partnering with Wells Fargo: “Together We’ll Go Far”

On October 3, a contingent of employee volunteers from Wells Fargo Bank’s Commercial Banking division, arrived at the Assistance League Community Resource Center in Walnut Creek.  These volunteers knew firsthand how to make a difference.  On that day:they assembled 250 reusable bags of school clothing for delivery to Meadow Homes Elementary School in Concord as part […]

ALDV Celebrates Leaders

Our chapter held it’s first annual Leadership Celebration on March 27.  Chapter leaders enjoyed wonderful companions, great food, and fantastic success stories.  Thank you all!  Without you we could not fulfill our commitment to the community!

Frank Made A Difference

Frank Canova of Diablo Valley Cabinetry of San Ramon was given the Making A Difference award at our April meeting.  His donation of a beautiful custom hand-crafted counter for our Thrift Shop has made a difference that will last for years to come!

Play Day on the Plaza!

SUNDAY AUGUST 18TH. was a wonderful day in the plaza filled with fun for all.  Assistance League featured our nine philanthropic programs, gift baskets, give-away logo beach balls and face painting. There was an Open Mic opportunity for local music and literary talent. Games such as badminton, corn hole, croquet were enjoyed by everyone.
