Our member volunteers in the R.E.A.D. [Read, Enrich, Achieve, Discover] program read to approximately 1,000 second grade students in 39 classrooms in 13 schools in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District and Walnut Creek School District during this school year. At school year-end, the program will also donate 980 books to the classrooms, and will allocate approximately $500 to each school librarian’s Wish list to provide year-end books for the students to read at home. Every second grade student involved in R.E.A.D. program this year will have a book to take home to enjoy over the summer The goal is to encourage children and their families to embrace the joy of reading on a daily basis.
