TEENS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Assisteens Auxiliary is a nonprofit, volunteer organization of 60 teenagers in grades 7 through 12 from schools throughout Contra Costa County who are interested in volunteering and developing leadership and organizational skills. Under the guidelines of the national organization and Assistance League of Diablo Valley chapter, members participate in their own philanthropic programs while supporting many of the chapter’s programs and the thrift shop. Assisteens Auxiliary has been part of the chapter since 1977 and puts Caring and Commitment into action by:

  • Hosting two holiday parties for elementary school children each year
  • Providing snack packs, hygiene kits and warmth packs for homeless teens
  • Sending note cards to homebound seniors
  • Labelinge ooks for schoolchildren to aid in literacy programs
  • Hosting seasonal interactive events for seniors at a local care facility
  • Shopping for clothing for homeless youth

One of Assisteens’ major fundraising events is the Annual Fashion Show and Tea featuring clothes from the Assistance League Thrift Shop in Lafayette. In addition to modeling, Assisteens make and serve the food, and host the event.

Annual membership enrollment begins in mid-May, and is closed after September 30, or upon reaching a maximum membership of 60.

  • Members are required to dedicate 35 hours of community service annually on Assisteens activities including staffing the thrift shop on Saturdays and helping with special events.
  • Meetings are held the second Tuesday evening of each month, except July and August.
  • Dues are $35 per year, plus $15 T-shirt fee.
