Sunshine Boxes is a philanthropic program that is part of our Operation School Bell Focus Area.  This program provides shelf stable food for the weekend to identified students in selected schools in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

It is the goal of the Sunshine Boxes Program to supplement the weekend food needs of students who have been identified by the school district.   These students qualify for free or reduced cost meals during the week but are in need of assistance over the weekends.

The Sunshine Boxes Program was originally proposed to and approved by the members of the Assistance League of Diablo Valley during the 2018-2019 year.  Working together with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, the program launched in October, 2019, with deliveries to approximately 135 Woodside Elementary students.  Initial deliveries will be made on a bi-weekly basis.  Sunshine Boxes contain healthy shelf stable foods such as fruit, cereal, macaroni and cheese, and beef jerky.  The value of each box is approximately $10.
