Welcome the 2025-2026 Governing Body of Kitty Young Auxiliary, an Auxiliary of Assistance League® of Everett. KYA Chairman Ashlyn “Bonnie” Yoseph will oversee this year’s board of volunteers. This team of experienced professionals have committed to leadership roles that aid the Auxiliary with their goals of philanthropic support. KYA meets its commitments to Assistance League of Everett through volunteering at Operation School Bell, ALE Thrift Shop, working with other nonprofits supporting military veterans and underserved youth.

HOW DID WE GET OUR NAME

Mrs. Marilyn Cook Young, otherwise known as Kitty, was born in Davenport, Iowa in 1921. When the family lived in California, Kitty became a member of the Santa Monica chapter of National Assistance League®. Upon relocating to Everett, Kitty saw a need for similar services and founded Everett’s chapter of Assistance League and was named president for the 1968-1969 year. As more women began working outside of the home, an auxiliary was formed with evening meeting times. In 1975, following her death a couple years prior, the auxiliary was named after Kitty to honor her commitment to this area.

AUXILIARY PHILANTHROPIC PROGRAMS

Kitty Young Auxiliary has a philanthropic budget of over $12,000 each year which is supported by our fundraising activities. The philanthropic committee decides how funds are distributed within that budget. Some of our supported programs and projects include:

• Crossroads High School and Open Doors Academy (Granite Falls): Crossroads High School is an accredited high school that serves students grades 9-12 that have not found success in a traditional high school setting. Open Doors Academy offers students ages 16-21 an honest opportunity to build a future that is meaningful to them. There are 250-300 students enrolled in both programs. We provide food and snacks, hats and scarves, gas cards if needed and graduation awards.

Index School: Index School is a K-8 elementary and middle school combination located next to the Skykomish River with an enrollment of 30-35 students. We provide students with enrichment activities, swim lessons and field trips to show them other areas of the community as well as other on-line learning activities.

• Northwest Regional Learning Center (Arlington): In June, Kitty Young Auxiliary (KYA) hosts a high school graduation celebration for Northwest Regional Learning Center (NRLC) seniors. We present seniors with a year book, decorate the Gretchen De Lap Room with families and friends in attendance. After the ceremony, a light lunch is provided the attendees. For under graduate students, we offer bus passes, snack food and clothing items as needed.

KITTY YOUNG AUXILIARY SUPPORTS THE CHAPTER

Partnering with the main chapter broadens our reach in helping youth in our community and gives us the opportunity to meet and work with other Chapter members.
