Assistance League in Action

Every February, Assistance League ACTION! Week gives all 120 chapters nationwide an opportunity to conduct a special program in their community.  For the past two years, Assistance League of Greater Wilmington has expanded that week to the full month of February and focused on children’s literacy.

For our Assistance League ACTION! project, a bright and colorful “book wall” of favorite children’s book covers was displayed in our Thrift Shop for the month of February.  The “books” were purchased with a $5 donation and the donors selected and signed their book cover before it was posted on the wall.    We appreciate the donations of many Thrift Shop customers and Assistance League members.   PHOTO

In February 2020 a total of 134 book covers were sold, raising $670.   Assistance League of Greater Wilmington supplemented this amount in order to give $2,000 to Forest Hills Global Elementary School (New Hanover County) and $2,000 to Bolivia Elementary School (Brunswick County) for their media centers.  Approximately 790 children at the two elementary schools will benefit from the enhancements to their media centers that we have provided.   In 2019, our ACTION! project gave $2,000 to the library of Penderlea Elementary School (Pender County).

We look forward to February 2021 to see what we can do for Assistance League ACTION! Week.
