Assistance League in Action

Each February, Assistance League of Greater Wilmington participates in the nationwide Assistance League in Action! campaign honoring the February birthday of Anne Banning, who founded Assistance League more than one hundred years ago in the Los Angeles area.

For several years Assistance League of Greater Wilmington has taken this opportunity to help the libraries of some of our Operation School Bell® schools, but for 2021 we decided to make art supplies a priority.  From January 21 through February 27 our members and customers in our Thrift Shop were asked to make a difference by donating $5 to this project to help schools purchase art supplies.  Those who donated signed a colorful art-supply icon, which was posted in the shop display as shown in the photo.

The following schools were selected to receive the proceeds of the 2021 AL in Action! campaign, for the purchase of art supplies: Castle Hayne Elementary, Rocky Point Elementary, Supply Elementary.

The goal was to help one of our Operation School Bell schools in each of the three counties we serve.

Our campaign raised $1,088, and that amount was supplemented with other funds so that we can donate a total of $3,000 to the three schools that were selected as recipients.

We are happy to help these schools inspire creativity in their students.
