Helping students at local Community Colleges

Assistance League of Greater Wilmington launched the Operation Scholarship Support program in the Fall of 2015 to benefit female students at Brunswick Community College (Brunswick County) and Cape Fear Community College (New Hanover County).

Operation Scholar Support was started by Assistance League of Greater Wilmington in 2015 to provide scholarships for underserved students who attend Cape Fear Community College and Brunswick Community College. The criteria for scholarships are: maintaining a minimum grade point average of 2.5; be a second-year student with documented financial need; be a resident of New Hanover, Brunswick or Pender counties; and preferably be a non-traditional female who is returning to school to obtain skills and employability.  Our chapter provided two $1,000 scholarships to each community college in the fall of 2016 and another $1,000 scholarship to each community college in the spring of 2017.  For 2018, three $1,000 scholarships were provided to each community college in the fall, and another $2,500 was given to each community college for scholarships in the spring.

Since the program began, the two community colleges have received a total of $19,000.

Brunswick Community College was awarded $2,000 for scholarships
