Rain didn’t deter our dedicated volunteers from coming out to pack food for the hungry at our final Weekend Food for Kids (WFFK) event for the current school year held on May 19th. We want to thank our partner, Dominion Energy, for hosting and supporting our monthly events again this schoolyear. Our strong partnerships with Dominion Energy Virginia, Intelsat and Quadrant, Inc.., have enabled us to feed more children in recent years. We are truly privileged to have the support of these and many other philanthropic organizations, groups and individuals as well as our community volunteers.

This month, we were delighted to welcome 71 enthusiastic volunteers to our community event. Representatives from RBH Global Wealth Partners provided hands-on support and also generously donated toiletries for our New Clothing for Kids program. The Dunn Loring- Merrifield Rotary Club, LexisNexis, The Teaching Company, Didlake, Inc., Miss VA Organization and Hair Image Int’l, along with Dominion Energy, Assistance League of Northern Virginia and members of our community, helped us pack 1,660 bags of nonperishable food for elementary school students who may otherwise go hungry on weekends.

Following the packing event, we gathered together to thank our awesome volunteers and to enjoy pizza and cookie treats courtesy of Dominion Energy, McAlister’s Deli – Herndon, VA and our chapter. Then, our teams of Dominion Energy and Assistance League of Northern Virginia drivers delivered the food to our six Title I schools. As with every delivery, the principals and school counselors expressed their sincerest gratitude to our organization and to all those who help us accomplish our mission.
We would like to recognize our incredible WFFK team for working so hard behind the scenes to ensure that our program succeeds. Thank you, Lynn Barron, Gail Banks, Debbie Aghamiri and Carrie Sawicki, for another outstanding year of giving back to our community.

Special thanks also go to Matt Love and Dan Kociola with Dominion Energy for coordinating the resources to help us deliver our WFFK program from September through May. We sincerely appreciate Dominion Energy and Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation’s tremendous financial, in-kind and hands-on support!

It’s been a fantastic year and thanks to our super supportive community, we will continue to provide essential food to children in need in the 2018-19 school year. Stay tuned for more info on our September 2018 WFFK Kickoff.  For more information contact us using: info@alnv.org
