Assistance League of Northern Virginia hosted a highly successful Book Fair at one of the eleven elementary schools we serve. Approximately Sixteen Assistance League volunteers helped each of the 630 students, from Pre-K through sixth grade, to find and discover their very own book to take home. These books, spanning a wide variety of topics and interests, were selected by the Scholastic Literacy Partnership program and Assistance League of Northern Virginia, with input from the school. It was gratifying to watch the eager and excited smiling faces of the students choose a grade-appropriate level book and, by signing their name inside the front cover, they made it their own. The volunteers enjoyed watching the children read and share their books with their friends as they waited outside the room for the rest of their class. This event was a wonderful bonding experience for the students, teachers, school administrators and our volunteers. Kudos go to the school staff and Assistance League for transforming the lives of these children, one book at a time.
