As a result of closures relating to the coronavirus, Assistance League of Northern Virginia has reshaped its Weekend Food For Kids program to assist the struggling families of the students we serve. We are still helping, always caring.

Since April, Assistance League has provided 1031 grocery store gift cards, valued at more than $20,000, for four of the Title I schools that we serve in Fairfax and Prince William Counties and the City of Alexandria. These gift card distributions are made possible through the collaboration between Assistance League and the extraordinary efforts of the principals, counselors, and social workers who identify those families most in need to receive the cards and make sure they receive the cards. Last month, our partner in the Weekend Food For Kids program, Dominion Energy, generously supported our request that, instead of using the funds granted last year for the cost of our May food packing, we would be able to use those funds for the purchase of additional grocery gift cards. In addition to the gift cards, we also distributed to our struggling families all extra food items remaining, i.e. Mac n Cheese,  from this year’s food packing inventory.  A most heartfelt thank you is given to Dominion Energy for their extraordinary and continuing partnership with Assistance League of Northern Virginia.

Our Weekend Food for Kids program usually ends when the school year finishes.  Because of the ongoing dire circumstances many families will continue to face, Assistance League has decided to continue providing grocery gift cards throughout the summer months. If you would like to help us with this effort, please visit our website: alnv.org where you can click on our donate button or send a check to: ALNV, PO Box 209, Herndon, VA 20172

Assistance League, our schools, and the families we help are most appreciative of your donations during this difficult time.
