Assistance League is extremely happy that we could provide grocery gift cards again in September.  Because schools were mostly closed at the start of this school year, we were unable to launch our Weekend Food for Kids program, by which we typically deliver 1,800 bags of supplemental food to students each month. Instead, we continued to provide $20 cards to the families at the six schools that would have received our weekend food bags.

Since April, our chapter, with limited resources and fewer than 50 members, has provided 400 grocery gift cards each month to needy families.  Through September, that’s a total of 2,400 cards, with a total value of $48,000.  We have been able to provide the gift cards by reallocating funds that had been targeted for other programs.

We greatly appreciate those who have generously provided the time, funding, and support that allows us to continue this effort.
