At this time of the year, people often pause to reflect on the past 12 months and count their blessings.  Most of us are fortunate to have abundant reasons to be thankful, but a significant number of families in affluent Northern Virginia are struggling.  For nearly 20 years, Assistance League of Northern Virginia has given young students and their families reasons to smile and be thankful, by providing them with food bags to sustain them over the weekend, when school meals are not available, as well as new clothing, reading tutoring, new books, and toiletries.  The pandemic has caused us to redesign some of our programs and find new recipients, but we have continued to respond to the growing need in our community, even though our revenue has not kept pace.

Today, on Giving Tuesday, think about all you have to be grateful for and let your gratitude spark empathy for those who are not so fortunate.  Demonstrate your gratitude by your actions.  Please donate to Assistance League of Northern Virginia so we can continue helping those who most need our help.  On average, our chapter spends more than 85% of funds raised in furtherance of our philanthropic programs, so you can be sure your generosity will yield positive results in the community.
