We are THRILLED to be recognized again by Giant Food for our work to reduce hunger in our community. Through our Weekend Food for Kids program we distribute 1680 bags of nonperishable food each month to students at six schools and grocery gift cards to a seventh school during the school year. All seven schools receive grocery cards during the summer.
In the past year, several Giant stores have designated our chapter as the beneficiary of proceeds from two of its community programs to reduce food insecurity in the neighborhoods where shoppers live and work. We are grateful to Giant Food and the customers who purchased Bloomin’ 4 Good Bouquets and Community Bags at the designated stores. We are honored that THREE Giant Food stores have selected Assistance League of Northern Virginia to receive $1 for every $2.50 reusable Community Bag sold during the month of April. Those three stores are located at: 5870 Kingstowne Blvd., Alexandria; 10653 Braddock Road, Fairfax; and 13330 Franklin Farm Road, Herndon.
