We hear frequently how difficult it is for many families to make ends meet on tight budgets as the cost of everything has gone up. Northern Virginia is no exception when it comes to families struggling to provide adequate food and clothing for their children, even though our area is generally well off. Assistance League of Northern Virginia supports children in need through multiple programs for students in low-income families in elementary schools throughout Northern Virginia.
Each year Assistance League hears from our partner schools about increasing needs and we have responded by expanding our programs to serve more students. In addition to our monthly Weekend Food program, we distribute clothing several times a year, including coats, gloves and hats for the cold weather as well as sneakers throughout the year. In the last few years, we have begun providing toiletry kits to 5th and 6th grade students as the basics needed for good hygiene can also strain family budgets. We have expanded the number of brand-new books we provide to students by adding “Build A Child’s Library” book fair events and additional Birthday Books programs.
Giving Tuesday 2023 is November 28th, and the theme of our campaign this year is Help Kids in Need So They Can Succeed. Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to remember that true satisfaction and joy can be found by spreading happiness through our acts of kindness and generosity.
To do even more we need additional help from generous people in the community. A contribution to our Giving Tuesday campaign can help support the kids we serve so they are better prepared to succeed. Visit our web site www.alnv.org to learn more about what we do and see how a contribution on Giving Tuesday can help kids in need. Giving Tuesday donations can be made any time starting November 14, 2023, by visiting: https://givingtuesday.mightycause.com/organization/Assistance-League-Of-Northern-Virginia.
