Our chapter recently honored two members with National Assistance League awards that are named after the organization’s founders. Cindy Burgess received the Anne Banning Leadership Award, and Lynn Barron received the Ada Edwards Laughlin Award.

Cindy has been a member of Assistance League of Northern Virginia since its formation as a guild in 1999 and served as the first president when it was established as a chapter in 2004.  In this our 20th year, it is fitting to acknowledge Cindy’s significant contributions to the National Assistance League organization as well as to our chapter. While serving on national boards, she provided guidance and expertise to many of the other 119 chapters across the country.  For our chapter., she chaired the Strategic Planning Committee and led the Advisory Council. Cindy has also spearheaded our successful White House Ornaments fundraisers every year. This past year, we sold more than 1000 ornaments — the most ever! With 25 years of service to Assistance League in Northern Virginia, Cindy has truly earned this award.

Lynn joined our chapter in 2014 and has been a dedicated volunteer ever since, serving in various positions on the board, including Recording Secretary, Vice President for Philanthropy, and most recently, Vice President for Public Relations.  She has also been a member of the Grants Committee and is a liaison for an elementary school we serve.  She has attended most Assistance League events and taken pictures to use in the write-ups.  Through the articles she wrote and her photos,  Assistance League of Northern Virginia has gained new members, new friends, and greater recognition.  Lynn’s dedication and support have rightfully earned her the Laughlin award.
