As the school year winds down, Assistance League of Northern Virginia is finishing up with our tutoring programs at several area Title 1 elementary schools. Part of ALNV’s Literacy for Kids program involves volunteers from Assistance League working with young readers to help strengthen and encourage their reading skills. It may be kindergarteners learning letter sounds and sounding out three-letter words or it might be listening to a 2nd or 3rd grader read aloud while focusing on comprehension and interpretation. Either way, the lessons are generally student driven and so much fun for the volunteers. We  hope that the children have enjoyed their time reading with us as much as we have enjoyed reading with them.
