Kids are back in school in Northern Virginia and we want to make sure that students have what they need to feel good about themselves and be prepared for a new school year.

Our volunteers recently assembled “starter packages” of new clothing for the Title 1 elementary schools we support so the schools would be ready on opening day.  Each package included an assortment of essential items, like undies and socks, shirts and shorts.  A total of 1298 items were provided.  School counselors and liaisons were happy to receive the clothing and will distribute the items as needed.  Soon, we will be working with each school to determine the specific needs for clothing.

In addition, we distributed 457 grocery gift cards in August, valued at $9,140, to help struggling families, as we did in June and July.  The cards help families when school-provided meals might not be available.
