We recently held our January Weekend Food for Kids packing event, by which we provide 1900 bags of non-perishable food to children at six Title 1 elementary schools in Northern Virginia who receive free or reduced-price meals. The students receive a food bag on Fridays so they have food on weekends, when school-provided meals are not available. Our monthly packings are held at Dominion Energy, our long-time partner for this amazing program. Dominion’s critical support includes providing the space where we pack and staff who help pack the food and deliver the bags to the six schools in Fairfax and Prince William counties.
In addition to our members and Dominion Energy employees, participating in this month’s packing event were volunteers from Nativity Parish, Springfield Golf and Country Club, and Hassinger/Armm Associates. It’s always a fun time of laughter, friendship, and music when we gather to pack food for children in need.
