The third time is the charm! Finally, after two weather cancellations, we held our “Build a Child’s Library” event at Sudley Elementary School in Prince William County, at which we provided new books for each of the 611 students. Our members enjoyed watching them choose a book of their very own. After they made their selection, we stamped the books “This book belongs to:” and encouraged them to write their name inside the cover. We also provided a bookmark. Students in several 4th grade classes were away on a field trip, but we left them an assortment of books for their choosing, so they wouldn’t miss out.
We are always glad when the students find the perfect book they are looking for or finally decide between possible choices, often with the help of our members, their teachers and classmates. The students’ thank yous and smiles warmed our hearts. A big thank you to the teacher who let us use her science lab for the event, and the teachers and staff who helped us get books to all the students. We also appreciate everyone who donates to help make these events possible!
