On June 24th, our VP of Resource Development, Karen Amster, attended a reception and worship service to accept a first-time grant award of $2,760 from Westminster Presbyterian Church. Since 2012, Westminster Presbyterian Church has given over $155,000 through 46 awards to local nonprofit organizations that aid children, hunger, education, shelter or self-sufficiency. This financial assistance is above and beyond the ongoing support provided to numerous organizations through the church’s local mission committee. Funding for the Community Grant program comes from the committee’s budget and donations made by individuals during an alternative giving event. We want to extend our thanks to the 2018 Community Grant Review Committee for this generous award. The funds will be used to purchase three months’ worth of weekend food for students enrolled in our Weekend Food for Kid program at Cora Kelly Magnet School in Alexandria where over 87% of the student population live with food insecurity.
