Giving Back to the Community

Our Philanthropic Programs

As Orange Blossoms we are committed to providing humanitarian services for those in need within the community of Orange.

Project G.I.R.L.

With Project G.I.R.L., the Orange Blossoms Auxiliary reaches girls in need in the city of Orange. Our programming targets high-risk and under-served girls with a focus to promote healthy growth, provide inspiration, teach self-respect and encourage literacy.

G rowth – encouraging healthy physical and social development
I  nspiration – enlightening girls with positivity and hope
R espect – teaching self-respect through exercise, positive body image, etc.
L iteracy – providing girls and women with books and motivation to read

Examples of Project G.I.R.L. events include outreach to the girls’ ward of Orange County Juvenile Hall through a motivational speaker and book donations and a creative expression series with pregnant women at Casa Teresa where Orange Blossom members work with the women on a monthly basis. We also facilitate a yearly holiday craft program with Mariposa Women & Family Center which provides the women and their children a relaxing and fun holiday event with special crafts to bring home!

Building K.I.D.S.

Through Building K.I.D.S., the Orange Blossoms Auxiliary targets high-risk and underserved children with a focus to promote the importance of Knowledge-based programming, help define a strong sense of personal Identity, encourage the Development of physical and social activity and aid in the process of growing into Self-reliant individuals.

Examples of Building K.I.D.S. programs include an annual Storytelling and Book Give-A-Way supplying new books to over 300 are youth, Adopt-a-Pre-School during the holiday season at Orange Children and Parents Together (OCPT) providing over 90 children with toys, pajamas, games and a new book, as well as working with OCPT to provide new shoes for over 400 pre-school aged children during the year.

Storytelling & Book Give-A-Way

During the first week of March we hold an annual Storytelling & Book Give-A-Way event. Held in conjunction with the Orange Public Library, over 300 attendees come to hear Dr. Seuss storytelling and select a brand new book to take home. Supporting our literacy focus, the Orange Blossoms are looking forward to growing this event every year.

Operation School Bell

Assistance League of Orange provides new clothing, backpacks with essentials, books, shoe vouchers and grooming/hygiene kits to elementary schoolchildren in need. Orange Blossoms participate in the uniform distributions and providing books for the children.

Save our Soles (S.O.S.)

The Save our Soles program allows Orange Blossoms to meet needs for new shoes for under-served children in Orange. The Orange Blossoms work with partner agencies in the community to donate shoe vouchers to children in need. We also work to supplement the voucher donation with educational and/or personalized gifts and services from the Orange Blossoms.

Ronald McDonald House

The Orange Blossoms’ service at Ronald McDonald house gives our members an opportunity to provide fresh, home-cooked dinners for the parents and siblings staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Orange. Families at the house are coping with the treatment of an ill child at CHOC Hospital and we always hope that the aroma of a home-cooked meal will bring a smile to their face. The evenings we spend at Ronald McDonald house allow our members to bond through the group experience of cooking together as well as the reward of helping families in need.

Links to Learning

Links to Learning provide grants for educational enrichment to assist teachers and administrators in the elementary schools of the Orange Unified School District. The funds granted through this program may be used for equipment, field trips, or classroom aids not funded by (but approved by) the school district. Projects should directly benefit and involve students, and/or improve or increase self-esteem and encourage interdisciplinary instruction, team teaching, or multiple teacher use, multi-age structures, and/or cooperative learning experiences. Grants range from $100-$1000. Applications are usually available in the fall.
