Santa Barbara – Assistance League Teens Give Back

Enhancing community spirit and learning leadership skills while having fun is part of the mission of Assisteens®, the popular and lively young auxiliary of Assistance League of Santa Barbara.

Founded in 2006, this group of middle and high school boys and girls meets once a month to serve those in need. They develop their own philanthropic and fundraising programs, as well as offer support to Assistance League of Santa Barbara’s 17 philanthropic programs.

The auxiliary provides an opportunity for members to complete community service hours required for graduation and develop skills and experience which reflect favorably on their college applications.

In addition to helping Assistance League with holiday donations, this year’s Assisteens have helped with the Bear Hugs and Family Learning Center philanthropies, and sponsored a secret pal at Hillside House.

In coming months they will be organizing Hillside House’s Valentine Dance, as well as Faux Prom for Assisteens and seniors at a local senior living community.

Along with its auxiliaries, Las Aletas and Assisteens, Assistance League of Santa Barbara’s 350 members volunteer more than 50,000 hours a year to improve the lives of residents in our community. The Assistance League Thrift Shop is the major source of funding for these programs. For additional information please visit www.assistanceleaguesb.org.
