Operation Bookshelf serves those members of the local community who are patrons of the Eugene Public Library and cannot get to the library in person to select their reading or entertainment materials. In concert with the Library staff who select the books, Assistance League volunteers bag them up and personally deliver them to individuals’ homes or apartments. Volunteer members then return the books and other materials the following month when they drop off the new supply. 350-400 library materials are delivered to 45 patrons per month.

An additional benefit of this program is the opportunity it brings for conversation and companionship for those who do not get out and about much. Our volunteers enjoy this program because of the human connection and comfort it provides to both recipients and members.
