Our recent 2023 Fundraising Event on October 29 was lots of fun. We definitely “Rocked Around the Clock”! Last I heard, we collected over four hundred pair of socks for future distribution. One of the highlights of the evening was having our Assisteens present and helping us out throughout the entire afternoon and evening. They managed to sit down and enjoy a lovely meal, meet new people and hit the dance floor. At the same time our band kept everyone on the dance floor. Thank you to D.O. Uke for making our evening a memorable one.
Our M.C. for the evening was Susan Shupe’s son-in-law, Tyler Brumbaugh, he’s a natural, kept us laughing and made sure we stayed on our time-line. Kriss Stewart was once again our mini masterpiece guru. Our student artists were told about our theme in advance and created so many terrific little canvas art pieces. They were going like hotcakes. Nancy Gayvert, along with her “master builder “husband Jerry, who created a fundraiser called Clear the Board. This was a first for us and we raised over $3000.00 with this game. The board itself was quite a deluxe piece of work and we will enjoy finding many uses for it, for years to come!
Thank you to each volunteer who made up a special basket for our silent auction. Those baskets generated $460.00 and each one was very special.
Our biggest thank you goes to our 3 members who generously donated vacation time in their various properties. They represented Oceanside, Mission Beach and Hawaii. The Alexander’s, Manwaring’s and Kathie Hafner generated income of over $13,000. The lucky winners are already making plans to visit. The competition for Kathie’s home in Kauai was strong. At the last minute of the oral auction, Kathie offered up a second week in her home and accommodated both top bidders. Last but not least, at last count, we raised over 30 thousand dollars net. Our expenses were very low and return was excellent
We were a pretty small Committee, working closely together, making this fundraiser very successful. Special thanks to Marcia and Debbie V. for your help getting ticket sales accounted for and registering our guests the night of the party, and to the worker bees: Noreen Taskalos, Cheryl McGlocklin, Janet Yamaoka, Krista Ross, Kathy Hafner, Janet Price, Debra Macri, Joan Fehlan, Nancy Schaefer, Candace Young-Schult, Kathy Moskovitz, Mona Ackerman, Jan Lopez, Nancy and Jerry Gayvert, Kriss and Bruce Stewart, and Sondra and Fred Peppe. Sandy Matheus did a special presentation of acknowledgment and flowers to three families who have supported the Legacy program for many years: The Manwarings, Ackermans and Peppes.
