The Parker Foundation Grant

In November a group of our members met with a representative of the Parker Foundation at the Sparkle House led by Angela Bear our grant writer. Her husband, Joe, had seen an article in the paper about how the foundation had a awarded a grant to a group in San Diego and suggested she apply. It was very interesting, that during our meeting the representatives first question was, “How did you hear about us? We never see applications from north county.” That shows how amazing Angela is, nothing stands in her way when she is on a mission. So, what was the results of her determination? $25,000! The Parker Foundation is celebrating 50 years of charitable grants totaling more than $61 million. It was created in 1971 by Gerald T. and Inez Grant Parker to support nonprofit organizations in their efforts to improve life for all San Diegans from arts to homeless services. It all began with just one million dollars and has supported organizations such as The Big Brothers and Sister, Habitat for Humanity, The San Diego Rescue Missions and San Diego Senior Community. We are truly grateful for their support and for Angela.
