This program launched in 1997. Authors and Illustrators are invited to share their books and skills inside of Glendale area classrooms. Prior to the event, the books are read in the library. We donate $2000 to the school for continued education. At the end of the day, students are able to purchase the books and have the presenters sign them. This program, as well as Operation School Bell®, has earned awards and citations from the community.

All invited presenters are local, currently published and usually award winning. Tim Egan (pictured, L) has been presenting for us since 1999. Authors Jeri Chase and Michelle Markel since 2000 and Alexis O’Neill since 2001.

Authors and Illustrators visits four elementary schools each year on a rotating schedule. With our long running program, each of the 20 local elementary schools have had 5-6 visits. We donate $2,000 to each school library so that they can purchase books for students from any author, not just our presenters. At the end of the day, students are invited to purchase the books at a discounted rate and have the author sign them.

Prior to the author’s visit, we donate a book to each teacher from the author that will present to their students. The books are also read to the students in the library. During Covid, we switched our presentations to zoom.

We have had the privilege to come into hundreds of classrooms over the years, live or virtually, and continue to receive many positive reflections from both the school and the authors.
