AL of San Jose members began the Caring Hands program in 2008 to create knitted and crocheted items for infants, chemo patients and aging seniors. The program continues today and has been enhanced with quilters. In 2021-2022 Caring Hands donated over 7,000 items to local hospitals and shelters.
