Assist-a-Shelter – Family Supportive Housing 2024-2025
AL of San Jose members showed creativity by developing and leading their own enrichment classes๐ถ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐พ , engaging both children and adults ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ง๐ฝโ๐ฆ๐ป๐ช at Family Supportive Housing. Throughout the year, members brought in 40 dozen homemade cookies ๐ช๐ช, and prepared 600 dinners.๐๐ฝ๏ธ๐
Caring Hands 2025-2025
Throughout the year, AL of San Jose members knit and crochet blankets that are given to hospitals for newborns ๐ถ, to Parisi House for their moms ๐ง and babies, and to care facilities ๐ต๐ผ Do you knit or crochet? ๐งถ Want to help your community? Join us!
Assist-a-Shelter – CityTeam 2024-2025
In our Assist-a-Shelter program, our members have: ~Supplied numerous ๐งด ๐งผ ๐ชtoiletry kits that are distributed by CityTeam to individuals in ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ ๐ง๐ฝ ๐ฆ๐ฝ shelters and those experiencing homelessness. ~Packaged thousands of ๐ฅซcanned, ๐ packaged, and ๐ฅฆ ๐ฝ๐ฅ fresh foods at CityTeamfor community members in need. Assist-a-Shelter – Parisi House on the Hill 2024-2025
Throughout the year, ALSJ members have actively interacted with clients at Parisi House on the Hill through ๐reading stories, bringing in ๐ช๐ชbaked goods, published authors and stress-relief trainers, and in donating items, including ๐๐clothes,๐ช๐งธ toys and ๐books.
Screening Eyes Early 2024-2025
Visual impairment in preschoolers can affect motor skills ๐๐ปโโก๏ธ, cognitive development ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ, and social skills ๐ซ. Some conditions such as amblyopia ๐๏ธ(lazy eye) can be cured completely if caught early. ALSJ trained screeners uncover dozens of these issues ๐ every year so these children can learn and develop without a visual handicap. ๐ง๐ปโ๐ซ

It’s the end of the school year and Readers Are Leaders volunteers have received kudos from the kids. ๐๐ Their handwritten letters and cards are special rewards๐ฅฐ for the readers who instill the joy of reading to over 1,000 San Jose 2nd and 3rd grade students six times a year.
