One by One, Over 1300 Onesies!

Members donated 1,375 onesies to Caring Hands at our January Baby Shower…and we are still counting onesies that arrived late! Thank you again and again to our generous members for their gifts.

Holiday Gifts for Readers Are Leaders

Barnes & Noble collected 815 books from customers who chose to donate to Readers Are Leaders after their purchases in December. Thank you for such a wonderful holiday gift to our program! We appreciate this extra support from our community and our local Barnes & Noble book store.

Bingo! AL of San Jose Visits Residents at A Grace Subacute

B5, 065, N34….. Assistance League Ladies help residents play Bingo at A Grace Subacute & Skilled Care. When a player wins more than two times, he / she picks a prize and gives it to someone else. Every player is a “winner”! Bingo!

Holiday Shopping & Wrapping at Family Supportive Housing

Our AL of San Jose members helped 20-25 children living at Family Supportive Housing select gifts for their families. We wrapped about 120 gifts from the children’s selections. It was rewarding to assist 15 families celebrate this holiday.

Wrapping Gifts with CityTeam

CityTeam San Jose has provided donated gifts for children in low income areas at two pop-up sites. After the children selected their gifts, our ALSJ volunteers cheerfully wrapped their gifts for a fun Christmas morning.

Holiday Crafts at Family Supportive Housing

Our creative AL of SJ members spent quality time with the children living at the Family Supportive Housing Shelter. Together they made beautiful holiday crafts to decorate their homes. It’s an honor to make sure these families have festive holidays.

AL of San Jose’s Holiday Social

Our Holiday Social was a resounding success — kudos to our Social Committee! The ladies of Assistance League participated in a spectacular afternoon enjoying the company of one another. One of our member’s former students provided superb entertainment. Happy Holidays!

Visit Christmas in the Park!

Christmas in the Park will continue through January 2nd, from noon to midnight including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Don’t forget to visit the AL of San Jose tree. It’s decorated with handmade ornaments that celebrate our community programs servicing those in need. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Readers Are Leaders Distribute Gifts to Students

Happy Holidays! This December, over 2100 students in 10 schools will receive a National Geographic “First Book” that they can keep for themselves — a gift from AL of San Jose’s Readers Are Leaders program. Remember, “A book is a gift you can open again and again” (Garrison Keeler).

Partners with CityTeam

AL of San Jose partners with CityTeam San Jose to end hardship in our city. Our volunteers provide bags of toiletries and help sort donated clothing for CityTeam’s pop-up closets in low income neighborhods, homeless encampments and their shelter. This month we were in the neighborhoods together, and together we make a difference!

Gifts for New Moms at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center

Caring Hands volunteers make beautiful newborn blankets, even bringing them to the AL of San Jose Regular Meeting. Bundled with a onesie and handmade matching hat, each month several hundred layettes are donated to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Made Fresh for FSH

AL of San Jose volunteers continue to happily cook and deliver Friday Night Dinners to families at Family Supportive Housing Shelter. We hope that someday soon we will be able to return to the FSH kitchen and serve dinners in person.

Christmas in the Park

AL of San Jose Marketing Committee members, plus one loyal husband, decorated our chapter’s tree at San Jose’s Christmas in the Park. Members’ handmade ornaments highlight the ways we serve the community. Come see our tree in downtown San Jose from November 26 through Christmas. It’s near the hot chocolate stand!
