Readers Are Leaders Begin a New School Year

Readers Are Leaders Classroom Reading

Readers Are Leaders began the 2025-2026 school year reading 2 books in October.πŸ“—πŸ“˜

Students listened carefully as volunteers read “The Curious Why” written by Angela DiTerlizzi & illustrated by Lorena Alvarez Gomez and “That’s Not My Name” written and illustrated by Anoosha Syed. Afterward, students participated in discussions about the stories.

Student also received a project to go along with each book.πŸ“ They will write about things that they are curious about and create a name poem using a characteristic or talent to describe themselves that begin with the letters of their name.

And…they were each gifted a book to keep!πŸ“–

Marissa Braun, 3rd grade teacher at Olinder Elementary wrote, “Thank you for coming in! The students really enjoyed it and have already asked when you’ll be coming back. We were able to do the name poem and they have loved sharing them with their peers.”πŸ‘

As a bonus, bookmarksπŸ”– with information about the libraries closest to each school were handed out to the students.

Readers Are Leaders will read 6 times during the school year. Experience tells us that every time we read, the students become more excited!
