Established 1983

Residents in nursing and convalescent homes often don’t have many activities to encourage integration with other patients or visitors, or to keep their minds active. Each month Assistance League of San Jose members assist residents while playing Bingo at San Jose’s A Grace Sub Acute & Skilled Center and at Stonebrook Convalescent Home. Assistance League of San Jose members organize the game and provide many cherished prizes including handmade blankets, toiletries, jewelry, and children’s items for grandchildren. During holidays blended voices, those of the residents and of the volunteers, can be heard over the roof tops as they joyfully sing seasonal songs.

During the pandemic we are not able to enter either facility. Our members are putting together gift bags and handwritten notes that will be delivered to residents to let them know that we are thinking of them.

I think Senior Bingo may be the most needed of our programs. Sometimes, we are the only visitors these people see.
