Assistance League® of Northern Virginia

Meeting the basic needs of children in low-income schools we serve

Celebrating 20 Years

We continue to celebrate our 20th Anniversary of community service with a series of monthly wish lists.  As we head into May, the end of the school year is coming up quickly so our focus is on the many students and families who will face food insecurity over the summer. This is why our May wish list includes basic items such as milk, flour, rice, beans, oil, and sugar to help families meet nutritional needs and provide healthy options over the summer.  So pick out a few items, remember to select Assistance League of Northern Virginia as the shipping address, and help feed a child today!

Got Sneakers (you’re not using)? Send them our way!

For more than two years, we’ve been collecting new and gently used athletic shoes as a fundraising program in partnership with GotSneakers.com, which compensates nonprofit organizations based on the quality and condition of the sneakers they collect.  Gently worn and new shoes are provided to people who could not otherwise afford quality sneakers.  Shoes that are not suitable for reuse are recycled into paving materials for resurfacing playgrounds and running tracks, and are kept out of landfills.

We encourage businesses and organizations to collect sneakers for us. We have many donation collection points throughout the area, including businesses and individuals.  For more info on the on the types of athletic shoes we can accept and where you can drop off your sneakers, check our Got Sneakers activity page.\
