Operation School Bell Serves 2,140 Students August through December; The Chapter is Recognized by Santa Fe Independent School District

Operation School Bell®, a signature program of Assistance League® and the chapter’s largest philanthropy, launched in mid-August, coinciding with the start of the new school year.

Two thousand one hundred forty (2,140) children were provided new school clothing and a hygiene kit throughout the fall months. Students, referred by authorized school personnel, came on specific Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at area JCPenney® stores in Friendswood, League City, and Pasadena. Those participating in this configuration were Clear Creek, Deer Park, Dickinson, Friendswood, La Porte, Santa Fe, and Texas City Independent School Districts.

Six hundred eighty-five (685) students received the Shop and Deliver option. Volunteers selected clothing based on the completed applications and delivered directly to the campuses in Galveston Independent School District and Mosbacher Odyssey Academy. The method for these students was altered to accommodate the unique dress code requirements specific to each campus. The inventories at Target met those requirements.

Assistance League® of the Bay Area is a chapter that provides clothing for students Pre-K through 12th grade. Although most of the service occurs from August through October, students are served year-round when there is a need or extenuating circumstances.

Santa Fe Independent School District recognized the chapter for its partnership with Operation School Bell and Operation Cinderella, a philanthropic program providing prom and military ball attire. This is the second year Assistance League of the Bay Area has served Santa Fe students.
