30th-Anniversary Celebration Initiates a Fond Recall of Retired Philanthropic Programs

Today, Assistance League® of the Bay Area offers seven philanthropic programs serving children, teens, and adults. Throughout its history, the chapter has managed other programs, meeting specific community needs. The philanthropic programs are routinely evaluated, and either retired or expanded as new demands and needs arise.

As we celebrate our thirty-year anniversary, we highlight them, beginning with philanthropic project A.L.I.C.E., Assistance League Interaction between Children and Elderly, managed in the mid to late 90s.

Once a month, volunteers from the chapter visited the United Way Activity Center for Seniors, bringing 4-year-old children from a local daycare facility. During these visits, the volunteers provided crafts or seasonal game activities for the children to complete along with a senior citizen. Refreshments were served, and the children enjoyed meeting new friends while the senior citizens were overjoyed to experience the little ones’ enthusiasm and excitement.

Children who didn’t live near their grandparents and seniors with faraway families could experience intergenerational bonding.
The time spent was tender moments for all involved.
