Assisteens is an auxiliary of Assistance League of Inland North County. This teen group has completed numerous activities and projects that are making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

The program provides a unique opportunity for students in grades 7-12 to develop a sense of community responsibility, self-reliance, personal responsibility, and leadership skills. At the same time the students are meeting their requirements for community service. With the guidance of Co-Coordinators, the Assisteens run their own meetings guided by parliamentary procedure rules. Co-Coordinators mentor the teens as they make decisions which affect the lives of those in need.

Some of the projects and activities include:

  • Assembling hygiene kits for Camp Pendleton and for clients in the Palomar Pomerado Health Behavioral Unit
  • Sponsoring and hosting Christmas and Easter parties for children at Interfaith Community Services
  • Preparing fifty bags filled with groceries which were given to residents of the Maximum Independence Facility at Christmas time
  • Making blankets for seniors at Palomar Medical Center

The group helped Assistance League staff in a variety of ways including:

  • Working in the Thrift Shop
  • Stuffing bears into bags for Hug-A-Bear
  • Filling coffee cups with flags for a luncheon
  • Working at the Escondido Street Fair
  • Helping dress children at Kohl’s Department Store for Operation School Bell®
  • Collecting books for National Assistance League’s Make-a-Difference Book Drive

Our partners tell us:

“The Assisteens provide a sense of community for Interfaith families by including them in “normalizing” activities such as holiday parties and fun activities.” – Jojo Gozalo, Family Housing Case Manager
