Operation School Bell® provides new school uniforms to in-need Long Beach Unified School district students. Operation School Bell is the “safety net” that enables our schools to mandate uniforms. This program annually provides approximately 10,000 backpacks filled with new uniforms, undergarments and school supplies to Long Beach students.

Operation School Bell’s goal is to give LBUSD students the boost of confidence they need to live up to their potential. We believe no student should fail to attend or perform in school for lack of adequate clothing. Through Operation School Bell, the focus is on attending school regularly and becoming a fully engaged learner in a safe and supportive environment.

The process of determining which students are in need of clothing is conducted in collaboration with school nurses, teachers and counselors who identify the children. At an average cost of $60 per student, elementary children receive two complete uniforms (two polo shirts and two pants or “skorts”), three pairs of socks and underwear and a jacket. Middle and high schoolers receive three uniform shirts and two pairs of pants and a sweatshirt.

Member volunteers pack the needed clothing with the help of our Corporate Partner volunteers and deliver it to the schools.  In addition, Operation School Bell clothes all the students in one school each year as part of Action Packed!  Operation School Bell is funded by grants, foundations, our Corporate Partners, and generous gifts from the community and member volunteers.  If you would like to donate to Operation School Bell, contact our office at (562) 627-5650.
