On May 28th, A Step Beyond CEO, James Wright, made a presentation on a little known, but fascinating program to serve local youth and their families.
A Step Beyond (ASB) is a Creative Youth Development nonprofit in Escondido, CA, providing free after-school dance education, academic support, and family services to youth and families living at or under the poverty line. ASB makes a ten-year commitment to support students and their families from 3rd grade to high school graduation and beyond.
Through this holistic model, 100% of ASB graduates enter college or career programs of their choice.
As one ASB alumna shared: “Dance is my home. It has taught me to be creative, strong, graceful, independent, to work as a team, and to express myself. Through all the stress and hurdles of life, I always know I can fall back on the thing I love.”
