Operation School Bell®

In this national program of Operation School Bell, students in grades K-8 receive a bag of new clothes, including two complete uniform sets, three pairs of socks and underwear, shoes, a jacket, a backpack filled with supplies, and a new book for their grade level.  The children leave with wide grins and a renewed sense of confidence. Over the last ten years, Assistance League of Santa Ana has purchased over $1,000,000 worth of uniforms and supplies, and clothed over 20,000 children in Santa Ana.

College Scholarships

Graduating seniors in the SAUSD’s CTE (Career Technical Education) Program that are continuing on to college are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship. At least twenty scholarships are awarded each April, with a lovely reception honoring the students, and families, held in May. The reception is attended by their families, sponsoring teachers, program staff, principals, and the SAUSD Superintendent.

French Park Christmas Gifts

Each holiday season approximately 200 residents of French Park Hospital receive gifts especially chosen for them, and delivered to each person by our middle school and high school Assisteens® groups.  In addition, the Assisteens treat the residents to a Christmas carols sung with great cheer.

Make a Difference Day

For the past five years, Assistance League has participated in the National Assistance League book drive.  Each year we have collected over 500 new and gently used children’s and young adult books.  Books have been given to schools in our district, and used in Operation School Bell.

Dental Center

Students in grades K – 12, and students attending Santa Ana College, receive extremely low cost dental care, including cleaning, fillings, hygiene education, and more, in our full service dental center. Hundreds of children receive crucial dental care each year which improves their dental health tremendously, and allows them to go to school pain free.  Soon we will accept patients with Denti-Cal.

Gift of Giving

Every December, approximately forty families within the Migrant Education Program of the SAUSD, are adopted by Assistance League of Santa Ana members, friends, and work groups.  In our beautifully decorated Modjeska house, the families are treated to a Christmas Party with Santa, Mrs. Claus, face painting, cookie decorating, crafts, and a buffet lunch.  As our special guests depart, they are given bags full of unique gifts for every member of their family.  It’s a festive occasion for both guests and volunteers, and all are full Christmas spirit and joy.

Outreach Program

Each year our Outreach Committee chooses four or five one time projects in the community to help with time and resources.  Examples of past recipients are Hands Together School Readiness Program, Operation Luna, Laurel House, Project for Homeless Kids (through Pupil Support Services of SAUSD), Operation Clean, Harvest Club, Baby Supplies Drive for Mary’s Shelter, and Rancho Community Early Head Start.
