Project  R.E.A.D.

Read, Enjoy And Develop was adopted by Assistance League of Victor Valley to meet identified needs of local school children.  Project R.E.A.D. funding supports the annual Young Author’s program, Literacy Award and STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) Awards, offered to all nine High Desert School Districts.

Young Author’s Program – Funding pays for binding selected children’s stories that are submitted to the annual Young Author’s programs that are held at participating High Desert schools.

Literacy Award Program – We are very excited to announce a change we have made to our Literacy Award Program. Through this program we provided books for each student in the third grade in three schools in eight High Desert School Districts that have elementary grades. The School Districts sent us the lists of schools. Books were then ordered and delivered to the schools and students. All the schools, teachers and students were incredibly excited about the books!

STEM Award Program – The Teacher STEM awards were offered for the year 2023-2024.  Information was sent to the Superintendents of all nine High Desert School Districts to pass on to their principals and teachers.  They were sent a link to our website where the teachers were to fill out a Google Form Application for the STEM Award. After the first of the year (2024) submitted applications were screened and reviewed by our members and seven teachers were chosen to each receive the $800 STEM Award! Teachers taught a wide variety of subjects and in grade levels that spanned TK (Traditional Kindergarten) to Grade 12. They were all very excited to receive the awards~

2023-2024 Assistance League of Victor Valley STEM Awards

This past February and March 2024, seven High Desert Teachers received STEM Awards from Assistance League of Victor Valley. Each of the following teachers received an $800 award that went towards purchasing STEM Classroom Materials for their students. 2023-2024 Assistance League of Victor Valley Literacy Award

This past March Assistance League of Victor Valley presented 18 schools in eight High Desert School Districts with chapter books for all of their third grade students!! 4,050 books (most of which were third grade chapter books) were ordered by Assistance League of Victor Valley from The Scholastic foundation. The $8100 book order was received at our Chapter Office in Apple Valley, then unpacked, labeled with book plates, sorted and repacked for delivery by our members. These books were then delivered to just under 1,900 students at 18 schools throughout the High Desert by our members.

Our members enjoyed giving the books as much as the schools, administrators, teachers and students enjoyed receiving them.   We know the students will enjoy these books, not only this school year, but for many school years to come!
