Connections… moving forward together; the theme for this year’s celebration of Assistance League of Albuquerque’s 60th anniversary. It describes the relationship between ALA and its customers.  The many philanthropic programs supported and run by ALA would not exist without them.  May was Customer Appreciation month, filled with fun raffles, frequent shopper rewards, and specials.

The customers who patronize the Thrift Shop, Shop on the Corner, and The Blue Portal are the most loyal in Albuquerque.  The proceeds from their purchases support the community through the various philanthropic programs.  Many have been shopping since the stores first opened, others have only recently discovered them.  The connection doesn’t end with the money from purchases to support the programs, the shops also provide the community with affordable goods that cannot be found anywhere else.  Some customers began shopping at the Thrift Store as poor college students and continue shopping there as successful professionals.

Barbara, a retired educator, appreciates that her purchases help provide shoes and books for children at Title One schools, and it warms her heart to know that when she shops at Assistance League, her money goes to support a program close to her heart.

The clothes that are not sold are given to Big Brothers and Big Sisters, so nothing is wasted.  David, a customer, is a hobby thrifter and says he knows that when he shops at Assistance League he is never overcharged.

Below are all the fun activities that showed appreciation for customers.

May 4, Cookies, candy and bottled water were offered in both the Thrift Store and Shop On the Corner.

May 11, an extra frequent shopper stamp was given to customers who spent $10 in either the Thrift store or Shop on the Corner.

May 18, Blue Light Specials were offered in the Thrift Store and Shop on the Corner; one in the AM and one in the PM. A special was announced for a specific item for a 15-minute duration for the price of $1.00

May 25, a drawing was held for items listed in both the shops during the entire month. Customers were invited to sign up for a FREE drawing.
