65+ Anniversary

Assistance League of Whittier has been serving our community for 65+ years!

Wee Wardrobe delivers Layettes!

Assistance League of Whittier member Jan S delivered 32 baby layettes to Labor and Delivery Coordinator Valerie Martin at PIH Hospital in Whittier, CA.  Wee Wardrobe programs purchases, assembles and delivers layettes so new unprepared mothers can take babies home with clothing and blankets.

Kids on the Block perform at George Key School

“Kids on the Block” performed for the students at George Key School dedicated to educating, embracing and enriching the lives of special needs students in Placentia, CA.  George Key School Facebook page is filled with very happy faces enjoying the performance.

Dental Puppets Performing this Month for All 2nd Graders in the Greater Whittier Area

On Tuesday, September 11, 2018, the Whittier (CA) City Council commended the Assistance League of Whittier for the donation of $8,500 to the Whittier Public Library.  Assistance League of Whittier  was recognized for longstanding dedication to promoting literacy and the love of reading through the summer reading program and bookmobile. New Board Installed

Excited to start the 2018-2019 year , Assistance League of Whittier held their annual installation on May 21, 2018.  

Legacy of Literary

Legacy of Literary  encourages children to read! Assistance League of Whittier collected 189 new books  and were delivered to Whittier Salvation Army.  Now families at the Whittier Salvation Army will enjoy reading these books.

South Whittier School District Board Recognition of Assistance League of Whittier

On Feb 20, 2018 South Whittier School District Board recognized the Assistance League of Whittier for their extraordinary contribution to the South Whittier School District and Community.   Members accepted awards for Operation School Bell and Dental Programs!

RID Shampoo

Assistance League of Whittier VP of Philanthropic Programs Jan Sprague delivered 48 case of RID shampoo to East Whittier, South Whittier, Los Nietos and City of Whittier school distributed to children families as needed.

PEN Award

  Former Whittier Assisteen Stacey Lee won the PEN award in the Young Adult category for her second book: Outrun the Moon. This is a compelling story set against the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Operation Holiday

It was a joyful day as Assistance League of Whittier’s Jan Sprague delivered Christmas gifts for eight families to the Salvation Army Whittier.  The eight families submit their Christmas lists and ALW members shop and wrap the gifts!  Accepting the gifts is Lt. Kids on the Block were in the annual Whittier Uptown Association Parade.  The puppets love the parade and they are a big hit with young and old. Kids on the Block performs programs on Bullying,  Healthy eating and other social concerns for Greater Whittier area

Grant Received!!

Thanks to Janice Hahn, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, for a $5,000 grant given to the Whittier Assistance League for its Operation School Bell® philanthropic program. This grant will provide clothes for 83 elementary students in the greater Whittier area when school begins this Fall.

Assistance League of Whittier receives recognition!!

At Whittier City Council Meeting President Marge Williams presented a check to the City of Whittier Public Library for the Summer Reading Program for children. Assistance League of Whittier loves supporting this program providing puppet, magic shows and activities for children participating in the reading program.  Last year 3,834 children read 25,670 books! On President Day Assistance League awarded  9 scholarships to Rio Hondo College students and 2 scholarships to Whittier College students.  Each scholarship recipient spoke of their education goals and challenges.  Assistance League of Whittier’s Continuing Education scholarships are awarded to single parents attending two local colleges.  Most of the scholarship recipients are pursing a Nursing […]
